The name tells us exactly what this product is for … Blogging.

Learn to make money blogging.

Blogger is one of the earliest blog-publishing tools originally launched in 1999 and bought by Google in 2003.

A history of Blogger and its development can be found on Wikipedia.

This post will answer the question:

Is Blogger good for the aspiring entrepreneur who is trying to create a money making website or online business?

What Can Blogger Do?

Many of us, myself included, first started on Blogger.

It’s easy and if you have a Google account, you already have a Blogger account.

Blogger is designed to make blogging simple and easy to do. And, Blogger is just that: simple and easy to use.

You can be setup and blogging away in a few minutes.

Font and subheadings are somewhat limited but it’s pretty easy to add lists, links, pictures, and video. Like an email, you can schedule your post to appear online at a later time.

You can login to your Google account, write your post, and be published in no time.

Monetizing Blogger is also easy. Google Adsense is built right in. Create an Adsense account and you’re all set to monetize your blog.

Straightforward and quick, Blogger is great for beginners.

Blogger is easy for kids to use as well. But not all blogs are kid-friendly. So, please use Google’s SafeSearch when kids are blogging.

My Experience

Blogger is just that, blogging or web writing software. You’re up and ready to write in 5 easy steps.

  1. Go to and sign in with your Google username and password.
  2. You will be asked to confirm your Google+ profile. If you don’t have a profile, that’s okay you can and do it later.
  3. Once inside Blogger, you’ll be prompted to create a title and web address which will have the .blogspot extension.
  4. Next, you’ll be prompted to search for a Google Domain which will be automatically connected to your blog. You can click on No Thanks and do it later.
  5. Finally you can choose a template from 11 categories of themes and you are ready to write.

It couldn’t be any quicker or easier.

Me personally, I was trying to build a website and learn about creating an online

I was able to get online quickly and create content but the training I was looking for was not available from Blogger. But since training was not available, Blogger didn’t meet my needs.

If you are just starting an online business or even if you have some experience, there is a lot to learn about running a successful online business.

You want to know what keywords are effective, how to get traffic (people visiting your site), and how to convert that traffic to buyers of your products or services. You may want to learn how to use social media to drive traffic to your website.

Website traffic = sales!

In my opinion this is not what Blogger is meant to do. If you want to use Blogger to start an online business that promotes healthy eating (for example), you need to think about this more.

I’m not saying that it is impossible to be successful with Blogger … all I’m saying is that Blogger will not teach you how to be successful in the online entrepreneur world.

Blogger – Do I Recommend It?

If you are new to blogging, just want a personal website, or you are a hobbyist, then Blogger might be right for you.

Blogger didn’t meet my needs. Blogger does provide good-looking website templates. The simple straightforward approach to blog creation is very helpful.

I just know that most people, especially me, need training, assistance, and support to be competitive and successful in the online marketplace. A “free” website can provide a good foundation for an online business but it does not provide the robust functionality needed to support a business.

So do I recommend this program? No, not really. If you just need a basic blog site and have the knowledge to develop and build out your online presence without training and help… then maybe you can get started with Blogger.

But if you need training and want to learn how to build your online business… then no, Blogger does not really provide that level of support and growth development.

What Did I Do?

What Do I Recommend

For me, I needed more than just a website I needed help to create my online business.

I would rank Wealthy Affiliate above Blogger when it comes to providing a great looking website and especially online marketing training.

Wealthy Affiliate provides much more than Blogger because it is also an online business platform that provides training, tools, support, and other resources for people to make money online.

What makes Wealthy Affiliate a better choice, in my opinion, is that they provide more for free.

For free, you will get: 2 websites plus initial website development training and access to their large supportive online member community.

The Wealthy Affiliate community is helpful and sharing. You can communicate with successful online marketers who are always willing to help you succeed.

The free membership provides access to 12 website designs. However, if you choose to sign-up for the Premium membership ($49 per month, $19 trial for the first month) you can choose from 2,600+ website templates.Wealthy Affiliate logo

Most importantly the Premium membership provides you with lot of training. The training will teach you how to build out your website and ways to get free traffic to your website.

Other than the cost of buying Domain Names (from $13.99 to $15.99 per year/ per Domain Name) there is never any up sell at Wealthy Affiliate!

At Wealthy Affiliate you will learn how to create a website, drive traffic to that site, and ultimately make money selling your own products or via affiliate marketing, aka promoting other people’s stuff online.

In other words, at Wealthy Affiliate Love What You Do is not just a slogan. Wealth Affiliate teaches members to how go after their passions and interests and promote products in those niche markets.

Wealthy Affiliate is a great place for beginners to start out and it is where I learned. The training is easy to follow and moves you from an online newbie to being an advanced online marketer.

And possibly the best part of it all is that they have a free membership where you can really get started and test drive the system. I have already written a review that you can read by clicking the link below if you want to know more…

  1. Excellent blog Steve! I have heard of Blogger but hadn’t checked it out before. I agree with you that if you want to make money online, it probably isn’t the best choice. It’s nice to know that you recommend Wealthy Affiliates. I think a lot of people believe that if they just post something on the internet they can make money, which of course, is not the case. Thanks for clarifying this. Your information was quite helpful!

    1. Hi Brenda,
Thank you for your comment. Blogger is great for somethings but if you want to make money online you have two options: (1) trial and error or (2) find high-quality training. I’ve tried trial and error and it was more error than anything else. Training applied creates success and Wealthy Affiliate training is the best you can find online. I know I’ve tried all I could find.
