Wix.com Review 2018 - Is It Really Free?

If you are looking to have a presence or make money online you may have come across Wix website builder.

The Wix ads are on TV and online.

But is the offer legit? Or: Is Wix a scam?

This Wix.com Review 2018 – Is It Really Free looks to see if the offer really lives up to its claims and hopefully save you and other readers from falling into a trap where you are offered free services only to find that you keep reaching for your wallet.

Now before I get started, I want to say that I think there are many things that constitute a scam.

It could be a complete scam where it provides no value and the people are only in it to make money off of you. Or it could be a “semi-scam” where it provides a lesser value than you were led to believe leading to nothing but discouragement and additional costs.

If you’re like me when I started online, I’d never created a website and didn’t know where to start. I didn’t know how to build a website and didn’t even know what HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) the standard language for creating websites meant.

My first attempt at creating a website took me weeks to get a bare bones website up and working. And, it was bare bones!

Is It Free? – Or, Are There Hidden Fees?

Will a Wix website give you everything you need to create an online business?

A Secret – They Don’t Want You to Know

Wix website designs are great and there are a lot to choose from but for ONE THING… while there is a Support Center you can access by email and phone there is no real training available.

But there is more to it than just this.

If you are just starting out on the web or even if you have some experience, there is a lot to learn about an online presence.

You want to know how to get traffic (people visiting your site) and how to get that traffic to buy your products or services.

You may want to learn about social media and how it can drive traffic to your website.

Website traffic = sales!

If you want to buy in to a Wix website to start an online business that promotes weight loss (for example), you need to think about this more.

I’m not saying that it is impossible to do so … all I’m saying is that Wix will not teach you how to be successful in the online marketing business.

Is Wix a Scam? – Do I Recommend It?

I do not consider the Wix  website builder to be a scam, although there are “hidden” costs in order to get you the business website you may be expecting to create.

Wix does provide a lot of great looking website templates (which really is good); I just know that most people need training and assistance to be competitive and successful in the online marketplace.

Let’s go back to our original question. Wix.com Review 2018 – Is It Really Free? The “free” Wix website can provide a great start for an online business but it does not provide the robust functionality needed without upgrades.

The whole free offer is without a doubt designed to upsell additional products, especially their eCommerce, VIP, and email options.

So do I recommend this program? No, not really.

If you just need a basic website and have the knowledge to develop and build out your online presence without training and help… then it’s okay.

But if you need training and want to learn how to build your online business… Then the WIX website builder is going to fall short of your needs.

What I Do Recommend

This Wix Review 2018 – Is It Really Free has shows that your will need to upgrade to the Wix subscription website relatively quickly and the platform does not provide online business training.

For these reasons, I would rank Wealthy Affiliate above Wix when it comes to providing a great looking website and especially online marketing training.

Wealthy Affiliate is much more than Wix because Wealthy Affiliate is an online business platform that provides training, tools, support, and other valuable resources for people to make money online.

Wealthy Affiliate provides more for free.

For free you will get: 2 websites including hosting, learn how to create a killer website, grow an online business, and have access to a large and helpful member community.

The Wealthy Affiliate community is helpful and sharing.

You can communicate with successful online marketers who are always willing to help you succeed.

The free membership provides access to 12 website designs. However, if you choose to sign-up for the Premium membership (only $49 per month, $19 trial for the first month) you can choose from more than 2,600 website templates.

Other than the cost of buying domain names (from $13.99 to $15.99 per year/ per domain name) there is never any upsell!

At Wealthy Affiliate you will learn how to build a website, drive traffic to that site, and ultimately make money selling your own products or services via affiliate marketing (promoting other people’s stuff online).

In other words, Wealthy Affiliate helps members to go after their passions and interests and promote products or services in those niche markets.

It is a great place for beginners to start out and it is where I started. The training is easy to follow and moves you from an online newbie to being an advanced online marketer.

And possibly the best part of it all is that they have a free membership where you can get started and test drive the system.

Are you ready? We are!

  1. Thank you for your WIX review. I had seen it advertised and thought about checking it out, but I am glad I read your review. Your review was very detailed and informative. Thanks to you I definitely know not to waste my time on it, or my money.
Thank you and best of luck to you in all you do

  2. Hi, Steven,
I started out with WiX I absolutely could not get the help I needed and I found if I did get the help it was just too late.

After all waiting for days on end for support just seemed pointless to me because it meant I was loosing business too. I also find this quite a lot with other people in the WIX Facebook groups. All wanting help yet not getting any.

It is essential to get help especially if you are new to building Websites. I came across a lady once her Website was beautiful but took ages to load a minute in fact which is totally no use at all.

People only hang around for a few seconds and soon move on if the website takes ages to load. I just couldn’t see the point in it so I gave WIX up as bad job.
I shall take a look into more of what you do too. Seen as this WIX review is totally honest. Thank you for sharing this review.
I do not Like WIX at all.
I shall book mark your Website too for future reference and I will be looking forward to reading more of your posts in the future.
    Thank you so much.
    Regards Deborah.

    1. Thank you for your thoughtful comment and that information. I did see read some reviews that echoed your comment unfortunately they were on a website that had some of it’s own reliability issues so I was concerned about quoting it. I will update my list of product cons to include questionable to poor user support.
      Thank you very much.
      Best,
      Steve
